Description

Level 246 is the 247th level of the Backrooms, and is a combination of both an indoor pool and a series of sprawling caverns, with the floors and bottom half of the walls being made up of a tiled pool floor, and the ceiling and top half of the halls being made up of either limestone or siltstone.

The level has two phases, these being "rise" and "drain". Rise being when the pool is filled with water, and drain being when the pool is empty. These two states drastically change how the level operates, and vary in safety depending on the circumstance. Each state tends to only last roughly half an hour.

Drain State

Another picture of drain state.

Despite the name, the water does not drain during drain state. Instead, it abruptly vanishes. The danger of this state is caused not by the disappearance of water, but by the multitude of other effects present during drain state.

Roughly four minutes after the water vanishes, the lights will shut off, leaving the level in total darkness. This will lead to the manifestation of Smilers, which are the only prominent non-native entity on this level.

On top of this, the level will begin to accumulate large amounts of dust and mould, making exploration without any form of protection a serious hazard. As such, any form of face mask is heavily recommended if one is to enter this level. All dust and mold will disappear shortly before rise state begins.

Rise State

The only known picture of this levels rise state.

In a direct converse with drain state, rise state begins with chlorine water slowly filling the pool in a process that usually takes 4-8 minutes, not before all the lights on the level turn back on. Through currently unknown means, the water is in a constant state of cleanliness, as any form of filth that touches the water will quickly vanish.

Due to this, rise state is considered the safer of the two states this level switches between. However, this claim is heavily subjective, as it comes with dangers of its own. The most notable being The Fiends of Level 246, a hostile aquatic entity exclusive to this level.

The Fiends of Level 246

The Fiends of Level 246, often shortened to just "The Fiends", are entities resembling large leeches that manifest during rise state. These entities are incredibly hostile and will attempt to latch onto you on-site. One successfully latching on to is an immediate death sentence. It will rid you of your blood rapidly, killing you in mere seconds. Thankfully, Fiends are a rare site within this level and can be easily scared off by making loud noises.
